The Plan: The Junior League Overnight Respite Centre
VON
Hamilton and the League committed to working together to offer more
options for help to family caregivers. An initiative to renovate and
expand VON's Adult Day Centre to develop the VON-Junior League Respite
Centre has now been completed. The goal was to offer weekend overnight
respite care for individuals enrolled in the adult day program.
Families are able to take a break for one or two days, both day and
night, while their family member is safe, comfortable and cared for by
staff of the Adult Day Centre.
 
It was a proud day for the Junior League of Hamilton-Burlington Inc.
when we shared in the Grand Opening of the VON-Junior League Overnight
Respite Centre. The Centre furthered the vision of "Respite care when you need it" for
those who personally take care of loved ones with cognitive disorders,
such as Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. With four attractive
bedrooms, the Overnight Centre provides safe, overnight accommodations
in a warm and caring environment.
The partnership with the VON Hamilton provided JLHB members with many
volunteer opportunities, from sitting on the VON Steering Committee and
contributing to the planning and development of the project to rolling
up their sleeves and participating in various "Done in a Day" projects
- beautifying the grounds, serving clients and their families various
special occasion dinners and preparing Memory Books that enable clients
to remember special moments that provide them with solace and comfort.
It was a truly rewarding experience, one that our League is thankful
and proud to have been a part of.
